What this is
TypeVelocity is a free, browser-based typing test made by one person (Made Me The Dev). It has three game modes (Words, Sentences, Song), a rank system, a profile page, and a blog. There are no accounts, no logins, and no backend server. Everything runs in your browser.
By using the site, you agree to what's on this page. If you don't, close the tab — no hard feelings.
What you can do
- Use the typing test, song game, and all modes for free
- Share your results, screenshots, or scores wherever you want
- Link to the site
- Write about it, review it, roast it
What you can't do
- Copy the source code and rehost it as your own project
- Scrape the word lists, blog content, or assets for commercial use
- Inject scripts, tamper with the site, or use it to attack anything
- Use bots or automation to inflate scores (they're local anyway, so you'd only be lying to yourself)
Your data
TypeVelocity stores everything in your browser's localStorage. Your stats, preferences, player name, and rank history never leave your device. We don't have a database. We literally can't see your data. If you clear your browser storage, it's gone — we can't recover it.

Ads
The site runs Google AdSense ads. Google handles ad serving, targeting, and cookies on their end — we just get a cut of the revenue. This is what keeps the site free. We also detect adblockers and show a polite banner asking you to whitelist us. That's it — no paywall, no nag screen, no degraded experience.
The site itself
TypeVelocity is provided as-is. It's a solo project, not a company with an SLA. Things might break. Features might change. The song mode might get harder. The rank thresholds might shift. None of this is guaranteed to stay the same forever.
If something breaks, you can report it at officialtypevelocity@gmail.com and it'll get looked at, but there's no uptime promise or support team.
Things can break
TypeVelocity is a side project. Updates get pushed, features get experimented with, and sometimes stuff breaks. Your stats, settings, or saved data might get wiped, corrupted, or just vanish after an update. It happens.
All your data lives in your browser's localStorage. Clear your browser data, switch to a different browser, use incognito mode, or wait for an update that changes how data is stored — and your stuff is gone. There's no cloud backup. There's no sync. We can't recover anything because we never had it in the first place.
We're not liable for lost stats, broken streaks, or disappeared profiles. That 50-game win streak you built up? If a format change wipes it, that's rough, but there's nothing we can do about it. This isn't a cloud service with redundant backups and a disaster recovery team. It's a typing test that lives in your browser tab.
Updates can change how the app works, how it looks, or how it scores things. Your rank might shift because we adjusted thresholds. Modes might play differently. Features might get added, reworked, or removed entirely. That's just how a project like this evolves — fast and without a changelog committee.
We make no guarantees about uptime, score accuracy, data persistence, or feature stability. TypeVelocity is provided as-is, bugs and all. If something breaks, it'll probably get fixed. Eventually. Maybe after coffee.
Intellectual property
The code, design, word lists, blog posts, and all assets on TypeVelocity are owned by Made Me The Dev. The repository is private. This isn't open source — if you want to build a typing test, build your own.
Liability
It's a typing test. If your WPM disappoints you, that's on you. We're not liable for anything that happens while using the site — including lost stats from clearing localStorage, rage from Hard mode, or existential crises triggered by being ranked "Snail."
Changes
These terms might get updated. If they do, the date at the top changes. No email blast, no popup — just check back if you care. Continuing to use the site after a change means you're cool with it.
